چکیده

The Radio spectrum has always been a scarce resource right from its initial deployment in 1920s. The television spectrum band is poorly utilized in Indian scenario. Also more efficient spectrum usage is possible with the migration from analogue to digital broadcasting. The use of Cognitive Radios allows an efficient use of the available resources so as to solve the problem of spectrum scarcity. An overview of the current T.V spectrum allocation in India along with the challenges and opportunities in the deployment of White Space using Cognitive Radio technology to enhance rural broadband is discussed in this paper.

A Planning Tool for TV White Space Deployments

There have been numerous studies conducted on the availability of TV white spaces in India, which show that white spaces are plentiful. If one needs to harness this spectrum, there is a need for techniques to compute suitable locations where secondary base stations can be placed for providing broadband access. To address this issue, we have come up with a planning tool which determines the best...

Wireless Broadband Opportunities through TVWS for Networking in Rural areas of Africa

In this paper, we propose a new approach based on Cognitive Radio technology to address the challenges for ensuring connectivity in remote areas of Africa. Indeed, the current network coverage is concentrated around the cities with high density of population. Through the deployment of Cognitive Radio, emergency services in rural areas will benefit from low cost access networks. Cognitive Radio ...

A Framework for Wireless Broadband Network for Connecting the Unconnected

A significant barrier in providing affordable rural broadband is to connect the rural and remote places to the optical Point of Presence (PoP) over a distances of few kilometers. A lot of work has been done in the area of long distance WiFi networks. However, these networks require tall towers and high gain (directional) antennas. Also, they work in unlicensed band which has Effective Isotropic...

Spectrum Sharing for LTE-A Network in TV White Space

Rural areas in the developing countries are predominantly devoid of Internet access as it is not viable for operators to provide broadband service in these areas. To solve this problem, we propose a middle mile Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTEA) network operating in TV white space to connect villages to an optical Point of Presence (PoP) located in the vicinity of a rural area. We study the pr...
